Gondek's abstract work stems from her interest in technology, geometry, machine aesthetics, nature and architecture. She works in painting and both digital and traditional printmaking. Her aesthetic concerns can be traced back to several art historical figures, including DaVinci's inventions and war machines, Piranesi's whimsical architectural spaces, the Futurists'works celebrating technology and the pre-Dada works of Duchamp and Picabia that take a more uncertain view on technology. Gondek earned an M.F.A. from Washington University, St. Louis, and a B.F.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is an associate professor at Loyola University Chicago.

Jeana Klein, Forgotten Narratives
Reception: Friday, March 3, 6-8
Mar 3 - Apr 2 2017

Located in the Grayslake campus library
Free and open to the community.

Klein draws her inspiration from abandoned houses, where she "spies on" people who once lived there, watching them through the telescope of time. Their ghostly voices speak to Klein from the ruins, telling her why they celebrated, how they loved, what brought them joy, what gave them pain, what they wore, what they ate, why they fled. She then digitally merges and manipulates the photographic evidence, breaking the images apart and printing them piecemeal on recycled fabric that is then stitched together to make compositional wholes, adding her own speculative story in acrylic paint. In the end, each piece is no longer image alone, but an image and object in quilt form. Klein lives in Boone, North Carolina, and is associate professor of fibers in the art department at Appalachian State University.
