The Capitol Steps began in 1981 as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize their employers and have elevated political satire to an art form. Before The Daily Show, Full Frontal and The Colbert Report, this Washington, DC-based comedy troupe gave audiences laugh cramps with their bipartisan lampooning. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Republican or Democrat, a snowflake or a deplorable: neither side of the aisle is safe from mockery!

"The Capitol Steps make it easier to leave public life."
— Former President George H. W. Bush

Roughly translated, Taiko means “big drums” ‒ and that’s exactly what Taikoza brings to the stage. This exciting group draws from Japan’s rich tradition of music and performance to create a highly visual, energetic performance. The show’s sound is derived from a variety of instruments, including drums of assorted sizes, the shakuhachi and fue (both bamboo flutes) and the Koto (a 13-string instrument). Audiences will be carried to a new dimension of excitement as this incredible troupe creates powerful rhythms and electrifying, room-thumping energy.

“The members gave their bodies over to … very physical and musical performances. - the highly appreciative audience was treated to physical dexterity and lovely, magical flute music.”

The dynamic, Chicago–based jazz vocalist Spider Saloff performs her one-woman show the Cool Heat of Peggy Lee in this intimate performance. Acclaimed as one of the great interpreters of the Great American songbook – Ms. Saloff is both a gifted song stylist and actress, renowned for her inspired, introspective performances. In this show, Ms. Saloff will pay homage to the smoldering style of Peggy Lee, from her humble beginnings through the glamour and chart-breaking recordings of the 1950s and 60s.

“Slyly sophisticated, easily accessible, Saloff stands as a kind of ideal.”
